This fellow has been saying a few things about one Stephen Sizer, an Anglican Vicar, and an anti-Semite of low degree. This guest post by Seismic Shock at Harry’s Place presents what happened, and what the blogger in question thought about the abuse of police powers by two British police officers.
What the Horsforth Sergeant did amounts to intimidation, the stifling of speech. It is true that the United Kingdom has no formal guarantee of free speech, but it does have a tradition of free speech. The right to speak your mind in the UK falls under English common law, and so enjoys certain legal protections. What this agent of the government did, on behalf of a bigot, amounts to abuse of authority.
What Mr. Sizer did was call upon the authorities to silence a critic. Whether what the authorities did on his behalf was legal or not, it was wrong, and it reflects poorly upon the Horsforth police, and by extension police throughout the United Kingdom.
Read up on the matter using the links I’ve provided above, and let the world know what you think of the town of Horsforth allowing its law enforcement personnel to do the bidding of a common bigot.
Update: A Correction
It was two West Yorkshire police officers who committed abuse of authority by harassing the blogger Seismic Shock. My error.
